Terms of use
Duefree terms of use
The agreement between you and Duefree’s developer when you use the app. We have kept it short and specific to how Duefree works. Please read it with the privacy policy.
Who provides Duefree
Duefree is an app for tracking your own spending and splitting bills with other people. It is provided by Aman Jaiswal, an individual developer in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). The app’s sign-up screen calls these terms the Terms of Service.

By creating a Duefree account or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Duefree.
Who can use Duefree
Duefree is for adults. You must be 18 or over to create an account or use the app. Duefree is for your personal use, not for running a business.
Your account
- You can sign up with an email address and password, with Google, or with Apple on an iPhone. Give an email address you can receive mail at: account emails, such as a password reset, go there.
- Use a name other people will recognise. Your friends and the people in your groups see your display name and photo.
- Keep your sign-in details to yourself. You are responsible for what you do in your account and for keeping your sign-in details safe. If you think someone else has used it, email support@duefree.co.uk.
- One account is for one person. Don’t create an account for someone else or share yours.
Duefree keeps records; it doesn’t move money
Duefree records what you spend, what you earn, and the bills you share. It does not pay, transfer, hold or guarantee money. It is not a bank or a payment service, and Duefree never lends. You pay each other however you already do, in cash, by bank transfer or with a payment app for example, and Duefree keeps the record.
When you settle up in Duefree, you are recording that you have settled up. A settlement in Duefree is a record that two people agree on, not a payment: Duefree does not check that any money changed hands, and a settlement is not proof that it did. When you record a payment, the other person gets a notification saying you recorded it. Only record a settlement you and the other person agree on, and talk to them directly if you disagree about one.
Duefree stores amounts as exact decimals and checks on its server that the shares on a bill add up to the bill. The figures it shows come from what you and the people you share with have entered.
Shared bills, Not mine and reminders
- Bills you add must be real. The person who adds a shared bill is the one who paid it. Only add a bill you actually paid, and only put people on it who really shared it, for the share they agreed to.
- Not mine. If someone puts you on a bill that isn’t yours, tap Not mine on it. That declines your share, closes it without recording any payment, and tells the person who added the bill. It can’t be undone, so use it only for a bill that isn’t yours.
- Changing a bill. The person who paid a bill can change its title or date, or remove it, only while nobody on it has settled or declined their share. Amounts and the people on a bill can’t be changed after it is added.
- Reminders. When the open bills between you and someone leave money coming to you, you can send them a reminder. Duefree allows one reminder a day to the same person, and limits how many you can send each day. Never use reminders, bills, friend requests, names, photos, bill titles or group names to harass, threaten, shame or pressure anyone.
- Limits. Duefree limits how often some things can be done, such as adding shared bills, sending friend requests and sending reminders, to stop misuse. There is no daily cap on bills.
If someone uses Duefree to harass you, you can decline their bills with Not mine, remove them as a friend once nothing is open between the two of you, and leave a group once nothing is open for you in it. Please also tell us at support@duefree.co.uk.
Duefree AI
Duefree AI is the assistant in Duefree Plus. Its answers are generated on your phone by an AI model, from a summary of your own data in Duefree.
- Its answers can be wrong. Check any figure that matters to you against your entries in the app.
- It is not financial, tax, legal or investment advice, and it does not know your full situation. Decide for yourself, and get professional advice when you need it.
- It never changes anything by itself. When it suggests an entry, a split or a settlement, nothing is saved until you check it and confirm it, and you are responsible for what you confirm. The same goes for an entry it suggests from a photo of a receipt.
- It needs about 2.6 GB of free space on your phone for its model, which is best downloaded on Wi-Fi. It may not run on every phone, and reading receipts isn’t available on every phone.
Duefree Plus
Duefree Plus is an optional subscription. It adds Duefree AI (including reading receipts from a photo) and premium themes (extra colours for the app). It is billed monthly or yearly, with a free trial where the store offers one.
- Sold and billed by the store. Plus is sold and billed by Google Play or the App Store, under that store’s terms. The store shows you the price before you buy, takes the payment, and renews the subscription automatically until you cancel.
- Cancel in the store. To cancel, use the store that bills you: in the Google Play Store app, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions; on an iPhone, go to Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel Plus. After you cancel, Plus stays on until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Refunds. If Plus is faulty or not as described, tell us at support@duefree.co.uk and we will try to put it right; if we can’t, we will refund you (Google Play) or help you ask Apple for a refund (App Store). Other refunds follow the store’s rules. This doesn’t affect your legal rights as a consumer.
- App Store purchases. If you got Duefree from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app. If anything in Apple’s agreement differs from these terms, these terms apply between you and us. Nothing in Apple’s agreement limits our responsibility to you under Our responsibility to you or your legal rights as a consumer, and the governing law section below applies.
- Plus belongs to your Duefree account, not to your phone, so it works wherever you sign in to that account. A store subscription can belong to only one Duefree account at a time. On the App Store, one Apple ID holds one Duefree Plus subscription: if Plus is bought on the same Apple ID from a different Duefree account, the subscription moves to that account and the first account loses Plus.
- Before you buy, check that your phone has room for Duefree AI (see above).
Acceptable use
When you use Duefree, you must not:
- break the law, or help anyone else to;
- add a bill that isn’t real, or put someone on a bill that isn’t theirs;
- harass, threaten, shame or pressure anyone, or send reminders or friend requests to someone who has asked you to stop;
- pretend to be someone else, or use a name or photo you have no right to use;
- put anything hateful, sexual, violent or illegal in a name, photo, bill title or group name;
- use Duefree to keep a business’s accounts or to chase payments on someone else’s behalf;
- try to get into accounts or data that aren’t yours, test or attack Duefree’s security, or overload it;
- get around the limits Duefree sets, or use automated tools to collect data from it;
- copy, sell or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it.
Your content
What you put into Duefree (your entries, bill titles, group names, your name and your photo) stays yours. You give us permission to store it, copy it, process it and show it to the people you share it with, only as far as we need to run Duefree for you and for them. The permission is free and worldwide, and it lasts while your account exists and, after you close it, for the shared records the privacy policy says we keep: bills you shared stay in other people’s history, with your name replaced by “Deleted User”.
You are responsible for what you add, and for having the right to add it. A bill someone else adds with you on it is part of their records as well as yours; if it isn’t yours, use Not mine.
The app itself, its design and the Duefree name belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable permission to use the app under these terms.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Duefree running and its records accurate, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of faults, for example during maintenance or a problem at one of the providers it relies on. We take reasonable care of your data. If you want a copy of your records, email privacy@duefree.co.uk and we will send it to you.
We may change Duefree to improve it, to fix faults or security problems, or because the law or a store’s rules change. If a change takes away something Plus includes, we will tell you before it happens; you can then cancel Plus, and we will help you get a refund for the time you have paid for but can’t use. If we ever decide to close Duefree, we will give you reasonable notice first.
Ending your account
You can close your account in the app or by email once two things are true: no shared bill you are on is still open, and any Plus subscription has stopped billing. Delete your Duefree account explains how, and what happens to your data.
We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, for example by using Duefree to harass someone or by adding bills that aren’t real. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right. Closing an account does not cancel a store subscription, so we will tell you if you need to cancel one.
Our responsibility to you
If we break these terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if both of us knew it might happen when you started using Duefree. We are not responsible for loss or damage that is not foreseeable.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else the law does not allow us to exclude or limit. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.
If digital content we supplied damages a device or other digital content of yours because we did not use reasonable care and skill, we will repair the damage or pay you fair compensation.
Duefree is for personal use. We are not responsible for business losses, such as loss of profit or of a business opportunity.
Because Duefree keeps records and never moves money, we are not a party to any arrangement between you and the people you share bills with, and we are not responsible for whether they pay you or you pay them.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes may be brought in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you keep the protection of your local law, and you can also bring a claim in your local courts. If you live in India, you keep the rights Indian law gives you that an agreement cannot take away, and you can use the consumer commissions and courts available to you there.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when Duefree changes or the law does. For a significant change, we will let you know before it takes effect and update the date at the top. If you don’t agree to the new terms, you can close your account. If you keep using Duefree after a change takes effect, the new terms apply.
